Minutes


Anne Machado called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.

Mrs. Anderson opened with “A Parent’s Prayer,” read by the parents in attendance.


Anne Machado announced that the SSL closet has been relocated.  Contact Lynn Smith prior to an event regarding specific items and quantity needed.  Any item needing to be replenished should be posted on the bulletin board.   A first aid kit is available in the SSL closet.  In accordance with Board of Health regulations, open food cannot be stored. Please do not place items on the floor.  Anne thanked Katie Glembotzky and Lynn Smith for all their hard working in moving and setting up the new SSL closet.


Anne stated that Jennifer Beisswenger has placed advertisements for the upcoming Marionette Show with Hudson Valley Parent, Yahoo Events and Poughkeepsie Journal. The Spring Gala will be advertised in Catholic New York. Please contact Jennifer for all advertising for future SSL events.

Ending Balance on 2/02/2009 was $16,472.05.


Principal Report Mrs. Anderson

Mrs. Anderson shared the Southern Dutchess News article highlighting the student’s donation of Christmas gifts to the Gannett House shelter. 


Student Council’s service for February will focus on heart health. Student Council participated in the Blood Drive held in the gym on February 1, 2009. Students will participate in a dress down “red” day on February 13, 2009. 


Peter Gregory has received a scholarship to OLLHS based on his TACHS exam score.  Emily Machado won first place in the DAR essay contest.  Several students participated in the March on Washington.  Grade 4 has done well on ELA exam.


Students will attend Mass on February 3, 2009, the Feast of St. Blaise.


During Catholic School’s Week, Grades 4 – 8 viewed the film, “Facing the Giants”. The premise of the movie is the power of prayer. Grades K – 3 will enjoy “Horton Hears a Who” this week.


Tuition Company, TPI has filed chapter 11.  All tuition options are being researched and information will be forthcoming.  


An alternative to Pizza with Parents was discussed.  

 


Catholic Schools Week Lynn Smith/Anne Machado/Katie Glembotzky

Mass and Reception went well.  Everyone was very proud of all students who participated.  Brenda Yackeren’s mom, Linda Lawson baked over 700 cookies for the week.   Open House information was placed in St. John’s and Our Lady of Loretto church bulletins and included in parish announcements.  Wednesday’s Open House was cancelled due to snow and will take place on February 4, 2009.    


Bowl-a-Thon Sandy Bulson/Peggy Mulvey

Sandy thanked Brenda Yackeren for helping her with the event.  107 students signed up to bowl.  Grade 4 won the Pizza Party. Plates, napkins and soda are available in the closet for the pizza party. Kindergartener, Darren Horton received a $25.00 gift card to Toys R Us for raising $130.00. The profit for the event was $1,466. Dan Horton will shadow the event with Sandy next year.


Marionette Show Brenda Yackeren/Jacqueline LaColla

Flyers have gone home.  Tickets will be available after Masses on February 7-8.   Durant’s will donate the rental of the Cotton Candy and Popcorn Machine. Brenda has received two phone calls from outside school/parish community for tickets. Flyers have been posted throughout the community.

 

Family Movie Night Jennifer Beisswenger

Anne reported that Movie Night will be held on March 21, 2009. It had to be rescheduled due to a conflict w/ CYO. Jennifer is planning on having two sessions. The first will be a G rated movie geared towards younger children. The second movie, rated PG, will be shown following the 5:30 mass. Pizza will be served.  


Spring Gala Anne Machado

Deb Stanco, Anne Machado, Colleen Carney and the committee have been working to secure raffle items.  Mystic Seaport, Thunder Ridge and Belleyre have already sent donations.

Solicitation of ad journal space will be sent home soon. The Gala is a self-supporting event and will not require an advance to cover costs

Doll’s Tea Party Nancy Yaremko

Brenda reported that flyers will be sent home on February 13, 2009.  The cost of the tickets will remain $15.00. The theme is Tea in Paris. The second grade has been assigned the event. Nancy is open to food suggestions.


New Business  

Anne reported that Beth Ferrigno had forwarded information regarding Bubblemania.

The cost is $695.00.


Discussed the possibility of hosting a fish fry during lent and/or dinner during the Parish Mission.  Event would replace the Outback Dinner.  

Lori Schulze shared information about gold for cash fundraiser. Attendees are paid cash for gold and host of event receives 10%. 


Mrs. Anderson concluded the meeting with the prayer, “Hail Mary.”


Anne Machado adjourned the meeting at 7:45 PM.
