April Minutes

Anne Machado called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.

Mrs. Anderson opened with “A Prayer for Parents”.

Anne Machado welcomed all in attendance. The March meeting was cancelled due to bad weather. A Mass card was sent to the Kronk Family.

Treasurer’s Report        Brenda Yackeren

Ending Balance on 4/6/2009 was $18,586.50. Brenda provided the board members with a projection/comparison of income for the past 3 years.

 

Principal Report        Mrs. Anderson
Mrs. Anderson reported that Grades 1 – 8 have completed ITBS testing; Grades 4 & 8 will take the NYS Science Exam after Easter Vacation. Religion exam will be administered in June.

Sister Pauline shared a slide show presentation on children in need in Cambodia and Africa with the students. The students collected $1000.00 for Missions. Mrs. Anderson shared a letter from the Holy Child Association with all parents in attendance. The students collected toothbrushes and toothpaste. Janice Tuillo, of the Parent Mission team will be bringing them to Guatemala.

St. Mary School won 60 awards at the CYO Art Show held on April 3, 2009. The Dutchess County Science Fair was held April 4, 2009. The school received 9 of the 15 top awards and 27 special awards.  8th Grader, Peter Gregory, was spotlighted in the Poughkeepsie Journal’s coverage of the Science Fair.

 Mrs. Anderson shared Monsignor Martin’s enthusiasm and how thrilled he was with the Spring Gala.

Joann Fenton’s Summer Theatre Camp will be held in the school gym. More details will be available soon.

Mrs. McGinnis had grades 6, 7& 8 draft letters to famous people.  Pope Benedict and John Travolta responded. Mrs. McGinnis’ students are participating in the Jelly Bean Project (Prayer) during Lent.  Each color jelly bean correlates with a kind behavior or good deed. Each student received a jar and every day adds jelly beans in the color that represents what they did.

Student Council has purchased picnic tables from money they raised by hosting a dress down day in March. They held St. Patrick, St Joseph and Holy week prayer services.

Mrs. Anderson discussed raising money to purchase 15 additional picnic tables to be used for lunch tables.  The tables are $100.00.  Open to thoughts and suggestions.


Marionette Show      Brenda Yackeren/Jacqueline LaColla
A profit of $1250.00.  Well attended by parish and school family. The children enjoyed the show, cotton candy, popcorn and water. Event was featured in Poughkeepsie Journal Focus edition.

 

Fish Fry       Anne Machado/KatieGlembotzky
Anne reported that approximately 200 dinners were served.  It was very well received by the parish.  After expenses the event profited $1100.00.  Consider doing twice during Lent next year. Barbara Paula stated that she received a lot of positive feedback from those in attendance.

 

Spring Gala          Anne Machado
It was a wonderful evening. We had 177 people attend. Wonderful raffles, delicious food and dancing.  Gala raised $7090.00. The generosity of the Coris Family and the Beretta family is greatly appreciated. The Smaila Family won the grand prize (Fireworks in Newport), donated by the Campilii family. Thank you letters will be going out soon to all individuals and businesses for their donations.

 

Doll’s Tea Party         Nancy Yaremko
Caryn Morales read a report submitted by Nancy Yaremko. The Doll’s Tea Party went well and raised $2,183.00. The event had a large turnout and a lot of volunteer help.  The 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade girls did a wonderful job serving. They will receive a two day no uniform pass.  Many generous donations helped keep costs down. The Carellini Family donated the food served to the girls and Barbara Papula purchased some of the food served at the café. The event was assigned to second grade but Nancy felt they were not made aware of this. Nancy is very grateful for all the hardworking parents that helped make the event a success.

 

Parish Mission Dinner      Anne Machado/KatieGlembotzky
Anne reported that a ham dinner will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2009 from 4:00-6:30. It is Divine Mercy Sunday and the first night of the Parish Mission. This dinner is a wonderful opportunity to foster the parish/school relationship. Dinner will be $10.00 and include ham, green beans, choice of scalloped potato or rice salad, cranberry sauce and a biscuit. A child’s plate will be offered for $6.00 Advanced reservations will be accepted.

 

Discount Cards         Maria Galiano
Maria Galiano reported that she has received many commitments from local businesses. The card is half full. The business request form is available on the SSL website. Cards will remain $5.00 and available in May.

 

Gold Event          Lori Schultze
Lori Schulze reported that 10 vendors will be in attendance. Light Refreshments will be served. There will be a 50/50 raffle.  Bellizzi Jewelers will weigh and pay cash that night for gold. Flyers will be going home in the blue folder.


Family Picnic         Sandy Bulson
Sandy reported the picnic will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2009 with a rain date of Sunday, May 31, 2009. Time will be determined. Father Robert has offered to officiate a mass. A save the date flyer will be sent home in the blue folder.       

Renegades          Caryn Morales
Caryn reported that a date needs to be selected. We will be offering tickets for $20.00. Ticket price will include a General Admission ticket, hot dog, soda and a Renegades hat.

 

Publicity          Sandy Bulson
Sandy reported that Science Fair photo and article have been submitted to Southern Dutchess News. She will submit Art Show winners.

 

New Business  
Anne opened floor for questions/comments regarding the vote on amendment to Article IV and Article VI of the SSL Constitution and Article I of the By-Laws.
Vote to amend Article IV and Article VI of the SSL Constitution and Article I of the By-Laws passed.  18 votes Yes – 0 votes No

 

Mrs. Anderson concluded the meeting with a “Hail Mary.”
